I know Robotics may sounds cool. I used to think like you. Hence I can empathize with you. Here is a word of advise.
In all honesty you should ONLY choose a subject if there is an industry out there for it where you can work. Its as simple as that. For example imagine if you were to become a doctor, you know hands down, that you will get hired. As long as humans live on earth, they are going to get sick and doctors will have a job. Think man, Think !!!
You are in INDIA. It is a third world country. Call center of the world. 85 percent of GDP of India depends solely upon software firms alone. Do you think India has resources to invest in Robotics??? Did your brain just take a walk? 90 percent of software companies of India depend upon foreign countries for their business. Especially the U.S. All your clients are Western corporations.
Tell me this- How many Indian companies do you know who wants to hire Engineers with skills in Robotics ??? Dude, I am sorry to crush your dream, but it is a thoughtless question. In Electrical Engineering, Embedded systems is a good field with lots of opportunities, or try Linux Kernels or Device driver coding. All 3 I mentioned are coding jobs only an EE could do. Its the most hardest and most needed among EEs. Also another cool and difficult and well sought field is RF Engineering
Besides, because of economic recession and the lessons US learned, most firms here in the US does not want to outsource any more work to Indian IT companies and are massively cutting contracts and projects. Then what India would do? More Taiwanese, European, Chinese countries provide highly skilled services and trade for far cheaper at a much Higher quality. Not to mention, the US is with no doubt steadily growing to be the highest technology nation of the world, and growing more independent, and has been tapping your resource for years. This is capitalism at its Best.
Name one company you know that has R&D in Robotics?
You answer me that and then I will tell you how to get a career in Robotics.
(Know this: There are 225 countries in the world, and there are 6 Billion people. Of that 1.2 Billion people live in India, which is only 1/5th the size of U.S. You guys are roughly 20 percent of the entire human population. The people of the rest 224 countries are saying, w*f India? By 2012, 25percent or quarter of all the Humans of earth are from one stupid country full of highly educated who has no self-respect or respect for others. Most of all you do is study engineering and make babies without knowing how to count or feed them. Nobody likes Indians, heck, even Indians don't like each other. You cant even buy yourself a cup of coffee if you travel 100 miles in any direction. The language, culture, Gods, beliefs everything is different. Unity in Diversity my a*sS. India is still full of crap with 600 languages, 2000 Gods and superstitions and aimless people and NO opportunities in ANY field except computer science. Unlike India, China is booming in economy, its the second biggest economy in the world (google it if you don't believe me), there are 19 new cities developed in China in 2008 alone that would put even Dubai to shame. Just try to imagine that? Shangai alone would take your breath away. China is US's closest trade and Business partner. US does business with China for more than 5000 Billion dollars each yr. Their students even have an exchange program, where they come here to US and Americans go to China to join colleges or even work. and relaxed Immigration. They are highly disciplined and well developed. You know why, One Language, One culture, One God and mutual respect to each others and highest patriotism. In my opinion, you should leave that mess of a place called India and escape and stand out of the billions of mindless engineers, learn medicine and become a doctor. Do something to stand out of the crowd. Your question here to become an engineer is only to seek our approval of what we think about you and my answer is, No. Recently there was a poll taken in 440 highschools in India on what they want to be, and 96.3 percentile said they want to go to engineering. Are you man enough to make a difference? And you know what, most of them never 'engineer' anything in their entire life. Or ask any Indian engineer in India you know. Ask one thing they've engineered solely by themselves. Keep trying to pass the medical entrance exam (toughest & most competitive in the world) until you get it, it doesn't matter how many years it takes you. Doctors are the most in need and most paid and most respected. Only consider engineering if you can't absolutely become a medical doctor. Every excuse for not going to medical school itself is an excuse no matter how many times you say it. And also know this. India graduates more than 3.8 million engineers every year and increasing exponentially. Not to mention the many millions already there, who are jobless. By the time you are going to finish that number is going to be double, because it has become a trend there. And there are not many engineering jobs. In fact there is only 11 percent of jobs each yr for the graduating engineers of India, which is the highest compared to all other disciplines in India, hence all people bust their entire lives money and struggle through engineering colleges to become an engineer. Have you ever imagined what happens to the rest? How do I know all this? Because I just KNOW. I am one. I know many Engineers in India who are in call centers or working dick jobs. If you want to become an Engineer, fine by me, join the millions of jobless and 'mindless' people of India and you can lead a life to nothingness. None of the Indian engineers ever 'reason with reality', you live in a lie and fake beliefs with no facts. You have high educations, but you fail to see the basic reality of your situation. You will remember my words that day when you finished Btech and have no jobs. I made a difference in my life. You can make a difference and do something for real. Heal the poor, broken and hurt of this world. You ONLY have a future in Engineering if you leave the country and get an MS in the US, and it takes several thousands of dollars, and years or hard work which I cant even begin to explain (because your mind cant comprehend it even if you spent years) and perseverance like no other, and is worth it. I had no social life since I am 15 yrs old. My cellphone even today has 4 numbers in it. There are no fun, no parties, no hangouts, no friends you could even cry on a shoulder. And still when you finally find an engineering job, it consumes your life. There is always problems to solve, and to do, your life will be neck deep in it, and you will always be stressed and would want to k***********f. There is no social life. You become a high tech b*tch. I am speaking from my heart. I hope you hear me out and listen to my words. This is the most raw and unfiltered thing I could ever say to another human being in my entire life. I speak from my love and care for you. Because you my dear little friend, don't deserve this life which you are going to choose. I know there is very little my words are going to affect you on your decision, because like all the billion Indians, you fail to see facts and have grounded beliefs in them. I made the wrong decision at your age, when I was in 12th. I even had to get a second masters to get a good paying job. Well, my case is different. I am still paying back my loans to the banks. Hear my words child. I am almost 28yrs old. I am an Engineer. Please for the sake of mercy and everything good among humanity please become a Doctor. Become a man of character, good conduct and good nature and morals. Spend 3 yrs or 4 just simply trying to get into a med school sitting in your room and consider this as an investment and find the money. . Don't care what anybody thinks about you. Your friends are not going to be there for you the day after you graduate high school. Go to a poor medical school if you have to, or whatever, get your Medical Degree and then here is the secret, take your USMLE medical licensing exam and get the F out of that d**n God forsaken country, and NEVER go back. You can come and work and live here in the US or anywhere, your life will change forever and will be transformed.)
