Husband drinks 12oz vodka daily and has for a few years now. Is there cause for concern?

He drinks only in the evenings and doesn't get "drunk" or pass out/fall asleep before we go to bed for the night. He never seems to be hung over in the morning and never misses work or scheduled activities. He's very active: bicycles, hunts, motorcycles, wood-working projects, etc. He has a fairly stressful management job in government. I used to have a few drinks in the evening with him but have stopped in hopes that he would cut down on his consumption.

That is a lot of vodka. Your husband is a "functional alcoholic". If he continues to drink to that extent, it will progress to the point where alcohol takes over his life. Ask me how I know this. EMT Alcoholic, 17 1/2 years sober, also a type 1 diabetic.
