What type of lawnmower will I need?

My mom pays $50 weekly(if not every other week) for our local landscaping company to cut our grass. I think I could make this a win-win situation for us. I'm considering buying a lawnmower for us. Then weekly(or every other week) I'll charge her $40 for cutting the lawn, and I'll do it myself. The only thing I'm worried about is the size of our lawn. If we're being charged $50 to cut the grass you might be able to imagine how big it is. We own about an acre of land, so I'm guessing that I'll be cutting 5/8 of an acre. So my questions are: What are some good lawnmower brands? How wide a blade? How much will gas cost me? Will $40 be enough weekly to pay off the lawnmower and gas AND make a profit? Or should I keep it at $50? well im young, need money, and saving my mom $10 a week. that's why

This is a tough one, and I'm afraid I can't give you the cut and dry answer you want...I'm just going to give you more things to think about. How much time can you devote to mowing the lawn? A $150 push mower will mow 5/8 of an just might take you all day. A $900+ish rider will do it in an hour or so...... More

Good mowers are Craftsman, Snapper, Toro, Honda and others Common blade size is 19 or 21 inch. The cost of gas will vary from year to year. $40 should be enough to pay for gas and make payment on a good mower, but why on earth would you be looking to "profit" from mowing your moms' grass!!?? Shame on you!!
