How many minutes before a job starts should you arrive?

I have a night job and was 4 minutes late and the lady who's shift I take over was yelling at me. I was really suprised because she is really nice all the time. Everyday I come on time or up to 5 minutes late. Never more. So how early should I arrive? I don't want to get there too early because those are not my hours scheduled to work. Thank you!

You should ALWAYS give yourself a ten to 15 minute cushion - just in case there is traffic or no parking, etc. Being LATE is ALWAYS bad no matter how many minutes YOU think is OK. TRUST ME - you will never get ahead with your attitude.

I always play it safe and try to get to work a few minutes early. No more than five minutes early should be fine though.
