My dreams were shattered, I was feeling terrible! Why did they do this to me?

Well I was a college graduate approximately one year ago. I was a carefree guy, doing okay in studies. I loved the subject computer networks. I could relate to the subject and it was logical and challenging at the same time. It wasn’t anything like Management Information Systems or whatever. I completed my 6th semester. We had placements coming up. I prepared for them. The first company was an electrical company, I didn’t get through the written round, and actually many didn’t. The next was Cognizant Technological Services (CTS) all my friends wrote the written test and we qualified and I got selected as a trainee software engineer there. Well it was a mass recruiting company and it was no BIG deal. Next there would be nicer companies.
Well the rule in our college is that we can get placed 2 companies only, one paying above 4 lakhs per annum and one paying below 4 lakhs per annum.
And I had got placed in a company which was paying below 4 lakhs per annum.
Now there were really big companies visiting our college. I was prepared. On September 22nd Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) visited our campus for recruitment. They started off with a really impressive Presentation, which had their video and all that. Next they told us how big really the company is, and how advantageous they feel because they have Nokia and Siemens both giants as their parent company. And it was a networks company, mobile communication (Another of my favorite subjects). The profile which they offered was Impressive, very lucrative. I was a software engineer in the R&D division of NSN.I was really impressed. The pay was also decent i.e. 4 lakhs per annum.
I wrote the entrance and got through. I faced a tough interview and was jugged suitable. And faced another round of interview and got through that too. At the end of the day at 8 pm. Some 32 of us were given the offer. 5 were my class mates and friends! I was really happy. It was like a birthday gift for me. I was really happy; I was in a networking company, doing all that coding, and working with my friends, with brilliant minds and cutting edge technology. I was on the 9th cloud.
9 months passed by, we never really got our joining dates. But we were sure that NSN would give the date of joining.
Many companies had visited our campus and most of my friends were getting placed and all was nice. I was done with my quota of companies.

Then on 9th of June the next year, I got very depressing news. NSN had honored just 18 out of 32 offers they had made.
My dreams were shattered, I was feeling terrible! Why did they do this to me?
Why did they recruit me in the first place and ditch me later?
Why nip my career when it was just a bud?
Why didn’t they give me another chance to prove myself?
I cried a lot of times.
I wanted to end my life.
And I still want to.
I have no job.
I am depressed daily, constantly.
When will I earn like my friends do?
I am just sick of my life.
Both the companies won’t give the date of joining.
I am just so unlucky?
Am I so unworthy?
Why is this recession affecting me?
I am just a kid, passed out of college.
Why should it happen to me?????
I think of suicide every day. I want to suicide in that company NSN.
I can’t talk to anyone.
I have no close friends as most of them are working now.
Who’ll listen to me? Who’ll want to? I have given up on life. I am sick of it. I can’t think clear or coherently. I wish I am in an accident. I wish I’d die in my sleep. Now 4 months are over after I graduated. Which company will give me a job? I am worthless now. I had dreams. Is it wrong to dream? My family members don’t like me anymore, I am jobless.
All my friends earning good and I am wasted here. I wished I was never born.

Rohan,

Your statement that you are a kid is absolutely true! Your age has grown, your intellect has grown, your knowledge has grown. But the most important asset of yours did not grow-----your courage. Friend, grow up. Be a man. This world belongs to courageous men, brave men; not to kids crying in their bedrooms.....!

To say frankly, you are "making a dinasaur of a small mouse". There are five things that I would like to share with you.

(1) Never think of suicide. There are lakhs of people in this world facing problems much more dreadful than that of yours. There are people suffering from cancer, brain tumor, polio, osteoporosis, arthritis, and many more extremely painful diseases. There are people who have lost their hands and legs in accidents. There are people who are blind, deaf, and dumb. Some of our soldiers are being brutally tortured by the army of the neighbouring nation. Even those people do not commit suicide. Friend, be grateful to God for whatever you are today, for however you are today. Whenever you are in sorrow, think of those people who are in greater sorrow.

(2) Secondly, you should never forget that, in this life, anything can happen at any time at any place for any reason. Always be ready for shocking incidents. We don't have to be ready to face pleasurable events. But, to face shocking events, we must be ready.

(3) Thridly, why are you thinking that an individual can get a job only in campus placement events? This conception is so childish. Friend, if this fact were true, then what would be the significance of the Appointments pages in newspapers? What would be the significance of job Web sites? What would be the significance of job references? I wonder how a boy expert in a "logical and broad" subject like Computer Networks can be so "illogical and narrow" in his thinking.....? You should search for jobs through different ways.

(4) Fourthly, the time period that has elapsed since your graduation has NOTHING to do with your job opportunities. I myself know so many people who have got jobs even after the age of 28 years. And I know you may not be more than 21 or 22.

Finally, the MOST important thing. You really need to grow your tolerance, courage, and self-confidence. That is, you need to become a "man" now. Give up childish attitude. I would suggest you to read some of the sections of the essay on Arnold Schwarzenegger on the Web site Wikipedia. And yes, don't make a mistake while typing the name "Arnold Schwarzenegger".

All the best.

My dear, I do weep for you. My heart reaches out to you. I know in my own heart that what you need is Jesus. Why not get on your knees and ask forgiveness of your sins, and then ask Jesus to come into your life? Find a good Baptist church to attend regularly. Ask the pastor for some counseling sessions with him.

Your life will never be the same when you let Jesus walk with you. He will most certainly help you with every single one of your life issues. I pray you will answer His call to you today.

You are sick in mind. if that was the case try out for further education and keep searching for job. if you have any senior friends or relatives working in good companies ask them to help you. look out for openings in private. there are many walkins for freshers! why get disheartened. I am a post graduate and searching for job and preparing for further education. if i can why can't you?

Realize that life in general is completely and utterly meaningless, you can work your ass off, but the inevitable outcome is still the thing we all seem to fear the most, death.

Having a high paying job or working at Burger King, nothing will change this.

Stop dwelling over minor details and move on.

So today I went in for an interview and I was going in for the 2nd interview by the head chief executive. now this is where it got weird, so she asked me about my previous jobs and said how much she liked that product over that product. then she started talking about her daughter? an her divorce ...then how she didn't finish college because she was making more money doing what she did for this company ... then she talked about how her teenage daughter is a handful... I just played it cool thinking she was using some sort of psychology thing to trick me into saying something stupid. the interview ended and she seemed happy an I was escorted to the door... now I'm freaking confused? is this normal behavior for an executive? like it felt like she was going to burst into tears at one point and tell me her life problems... is this normal? was she trying to see how I react or something?

Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

Recently I have overlooked for a project at work and I am unable to accept it why? I am hard working, dedicated, maintain a very professional decorum, very cordial with my colleagues and bosses, give respect to one and all. Still people who take the p***, argue with managers, gossip mongers have been selected for some very responsible positions at work. I seriously can't get my head around it why, why unprofessional people who have no work ethics being selected over me, whereas I have a track record of excellent performance and never shy away from any work my manager ask me to do? I am at my lowest point and not getting hold of my manager to ask the question why not me, why them who can't even bother? I am feeling like a complete loser, giving years to this place, building my performance, trust and this is how I get rewarded. Why my life is so shit, anything I wish for turns to dust?

So I have a nice white button up shirt, business skirt and pants, and a suit jacket. I'm applying for a software development job and I'm very short and can look young so I'm trying to look adult, yet professional. I'm also attractive so I'm trying not to look too sexy. For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!

I am in the process of planning my own wedding and I am having a fantastic time doing so. I have always enjoyed planning things: group vacations for my friends and I, road trips, etc... I could be described as a slight control freak and I am a perfectionist. I know I would exceed, and enjoy my career, if I were to make this a possibility. How do I do it? How do I get my name out there? How much do event planners charge for their services? I have a lot of questions, and hope that people who are self employed would be able to give me some pointers on getting my business up and running. Thank You in advance for your time and help.
