Should internet access be regulated by the federal governments?

Should access to the internet be regulated by the federal governments? For example maybe when someone reaches a certain age they can apply for an access card. Of course schools and other education centres should be given access for researching purposes. This would probably cut down on a lot of child pornography and stupid kids being abducted by posting their address online. Sure you might say it's the parents job to watch their kis online but guess what? They don't do it now and they wont do it tomorrow!

I would have serious objections to any government regulating the greatest communication invention since the printed word. Other then the logistical problems that such a plan would occur, the Internet doesn't fall under the control of any one government, there is a freedom of expression issue. As vile and outrageous... You want the USA to be like China? They do much the same thing. People with kids have to monitor what sites their kids are visiting. It's not like it's a big secret that there are perverts lurking around the Internet. Parents have to take some responsibility for what their kids are doing.
