Is it possible to get started selling Mary Kay with only the kit?

I am a single mother of a 4 year old. I work full time and go to school full time. I would like to make enough in Mary Kay to quit my full time job and be able to do Mary Kay and go to school. Is this a far fetched dream?

Hi--it's not a far fetched dream but it will take work and a lot of it.

I sell MK and have been with it for 4 yrs. I have times when I have absolutely no inventory and do just fine. So don't believe the directors that tell u you need inventory.

YES it helps but it isn't a make or break it. You may miss out on the odd $15 sale but seriously--those aren't going to make or break you.

MK has a 3 day turn around from when you put your order in and then you have it--so your customers can have it within 3-5 days! Pretty dam good!

I also offer them samples to get through those first few days. SO I always keep a ton of samples in (ton is like at least 3-5 of each of the timewise skincare). And at least 3-5 color cards or equal amount of samples. Not a whole lot. Most ppl don't mind the week as they are usually finishing something up at home.

I also offer a purse size hand cream (50 cents in Canada) for a gift for waiting.

Anyway, the best way to start is to start with little things you can do as you work full time and go to school full time. The people you meet NOW and the people you see now are the ones you focus on for now.

Also focus on your possible Christmas sales etc.

Then meanwhile as you get customers that way--then build from there. really work at booking from booking--it will save you a TON of time in the future!

Also follow up. Follow up takes time so be ok with spending some of your profit on a service like paying a friend to write up thank you cards.

One thing I do is take thank you cards with me to a facial/class. I fill it out there! ANd it's already pre-stamped because I did that as soon as I bought stamps and cards--and then just prestamped them and added my return address stamp (you can get them vistaprint.com for $10).

Fill out the card--thank you for having me over--and for introducing me to your friends & family or sister or whatever--if you do it as your are there it's fresh in your head.

Ask her to fill out 2 labels with her address (I have an assistnt who does that for me now) but anyway--do that--and then stick label onto her envelope and another label on a file folder--that file folder is all the stuff for HER class.

Yes I have a 100 file folders now but it totally works, I'm overly organized as I've built up my business--this system though a bit tedious is totally workable as I can just "get the folder".

Moving on: as soon as you leave, sign card and throw in nearest mailbox on the way home. It gets to her within 2-3 days!

I then call all the friends that were at the party. I used to work full time, go to school part time and did MK part time on top of that.

Part time MK for me was 12 hours every week or 2 wks and then 2 wks of 6 hours a week per month.

12 hour weeks included putting out a facail box at a salon or shop (to get names--you'll be told how to do that).

calling names, and getting facials booked. I sold $22K that year and made 40?f that.

So keep that in mind for the hours worked/people seen. I recruited not very many--that wasn't my goal.

I have a team now and that is my goal now, and sales, but that year it was just customers.

Also focus on skincare--skincare will keep you in business as ppl may be buying lipstick but they will only need a lipstick or 2 a year.

I'm a Mary Kay Consultant
Answered By: Brandi - 10/15/2009
If you sign up for Mary Kay you will have to purchase a minimum of $200 in product. This is what I would do so that you don't have to put that money out front and get training: For one, you should ask you director to debut you, this means that at your first party you should be inviting all of your contacts; friends, co-workers, family, ect. and ask each of them to bring a friend. It might seem like you are inviting a lot, but just remember that a lot will back out at the last minute. Then your director should conduct the party for you, using HER stuff. Any sales made that night should go to you and starting your Mary Kay business. And if you can I would do this before you even get your bag of stuff.

Remember that the more stock you order on your first order, the better deal you get. You usually get a bigger discount and extras, but don't feel pressured into buying more then you can afford..if your strapped for cash then only buy the $200 minimum! When you place that order, order what you would need as back ups to give parties and then anything else you need to order for pre-orders that you have taken. If your not going to keep stock at hand then set up ordering dates ahead of time so that you can tell your customers when to expect it, 2 weeks out is a little only to be delivering product.

In the end remember that you bring about your own success, you need to keep on top of your own business in order to make it work. Separate your income money so that your not tempted to spend it, use the money to buy the product you need so that your not feeling strapped when order time comes around.

Also, don't waste money on buying samples of color, concentrate on selling the skin care, if people buy color and they don't like it just return it.

(if you became a consultant in October and get the new mini bag then you should place a $600 order so that you can receive the rest of your bag and all the extras. You CAN still make a $200 minimum order but really you will be losing out in the long run and will still have to buy all your other starter kit stuff)

You cannot make money with Mary Kay unless you recruit people and pressure them into buying large inventories. That's how you make your "love checks" which is commission.

The started kit you get that you paid 100+tax should include enough products to make over 30 faces, which are supposed to become your client base. There is a new starter kit that's only 50 that doesn't have enough product to do that many faces, I think only 10, but I'm not sure.

Trust me, Mary Kay is not worth it. They bring you in with the whole "God first, Family second, Mary Kay last" and then later tell you to sacrifice your religion and family for Mary Kay in order to make it to the point where you can be with your family.

Get your education and a real job, one that pays benefits, sick leave, holidays etc...

I think you should just do this as a side business.
you could make enough if you open a store, like a actual store of mary kay.
and possibly go to markets and stuff.

I'm 13 and I want to be able to do a nice age appropriate makeup job. And my eyes are green so I don't know what color to use.

For my friend's birthday, I got her a book that teaches all about makeup- tools, proper application, products, colors, different looks, etc. She's into girly things, so I figured it would be a nice gift. On second thought though, do you think she would get offended by it and take it as if i'm implying she does a horrible makeup job on herself? I don't want her to think that. I just thought it was a good book and I even bought myself a copy.

So today I went in for an interview and I was going in for the 2nd interview by the head chief executive. now this is where it got weird, so she asked me about my previous jobs and said how much she liked that product over that product. then she started talking about her daughter? an her divorce ...then how she didn't finish college because she was making more money doing what she did for this company ... then she talked about how her teenage daughter is a handful... I just played it cool thinking she was using some sort of psychology thing to trick me into saying something stupid. the interview ended and she seemed happy an I was escorted to the door... now I'm freaking confused? is this normal behavior for an executive? like it felt like she was going to burst into tears at one point and tell me her life problems... is this normal? was she trying to see how I react or something?

Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

Recently I have overlooked for a project at work and I am unable to accept it why? I am hard working, dedicated, maintain a very professional decorum, very cordial with my colleagues and bosses, give respect to one and all. Still people who take the p***, argue with managers, gossip mongers have been selected for some very responsible positions at work. I seriously can't get my head around it why, why unprofessional people who have no work ethics being selected over me, whereas I have a track record of excellent performance and never shy away from any work my manager ask me to do? I am at my lowest point and not getting hold of my manager to ask the question why not me, why them who can't even bother? I am feeling like a complete loser, giving years to this place, building my performance, trust and this is how I get rewarded. Why my life is so shit, anything I wish for turns to dust?

So I have a nice white button up shirt, business skirt and pants, and a suit jacket. I'm applying for a software development job and I'm very short and can look young so I'm trying to look adult, yet professional. I'm also attractive so I'm trying not to look too sexy. For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!

I am in the process of planning my own wedding and I am having a fantastic time doing so. I have always enjoyed planning things: group vacations for my friends and I, road trips, etc... I could be described as a slight control freak and I am a perfectionist. I know I would exceed, and enjoy my career, if I were to make this a possibility. How do I do it? How do I get my name out there? How much do event planners charge for their services? I have a lot of questions, and hope that people who are self employed would be able to give me some pointers on getting my business up and running. Thank You in advance for your time and help.

I'm applying online for a job at Debenhams. It's just a temporary part time job but I have no previous retail experience, just in customer service, and I am finding some of the questions rather difficult. Our commitment to training and development encourages our people to grow their futures with us. If successful in joining our team, how will you become an expert at what you do? and At Debenhams, our people make all the difference to our customers. If you were a Stock Movement Adviser with us, how would our customers know that you are focused on their individual shopping experience? Any help in answering these questions would be greatly appreciated, many thanks!
