Who earns more money and is in a higher position, loan officer or underwriter? And whose job is more difficult? Thanks Also. I'm just curious to know how long it would usually take an underwriter to write a loan?

I think both are equally difficult but different. Underwriting is more detail oriented and loan officer is more people oriented. Here in IL underwriters are usually paid salary plus bonus per loan but loan officers are straight commission.

Technically it would be the underwriter since they would work with many loan officers making loans, but a loan officer that made many loans with different underwriters could make more... More
