Is it true that the amount of teacher jobs avaliable has decreased?

I spoke with some people and, according to them, the teaching area has gotten more competitive now...and that a lot of people with teaching degrees can't find it true? Does anyone know anything about this?? Thanks :)

It's true. Teaching is one of the most secure jobs you can get in Canada, that many people retire very late, not making room for new teachers to enter. Well, it depends on where you are located, but generally, many states had to make cuts in their workforces because of the poor economy last year, so many cut back on the number of teachers - either they didn't hire new teachers or, in the worst cases, they laid of existing teachers.

Its true. In South Carolina, we have a problem with older teachers who can and should retire staying on and young teachers/college grads can't get in.
