Why do you think a lot of Filipinos are running for office this coming election?

From Senator to Mayor, from Mayor to Congressman, from Congressman to Senator, from Senator to the Presidency and the list goes on and on 'til the break of dawn. What are these people up too? Is it their ardent desire to serve the people in general or serve their pockets in the long run or is it power than allure them in these positions. "I love power. But it is as an artist that I love it. I love it as a musician loves his violin, to draw out its sounds and chords and harmonies." — Napoleon Bonaparte. Power has been called many things. The ultimate aphrodisiac. An absolute corrupter. A mistress. A violin. But its true nature remains elusive. After all, a head of state wields a very different sort of power than a religious figure. Can one really compare the influence of a journalist to that of a terrorist? And is power unexercised power at all? It is once uttered by Imelda Marcos when she cannot get what she wants to the entire AFP personnel in Malacanang "what are we in power for.." Like the position of the President of the Republic of the Philippines. Who would want to have a position who has tremendous problems at his hands? I guess the salary of the President of the Philippines is Php 60,000/mos. but is this compensation lucrative enough for everybody to run for the Presidency? 60,000 lang pero sandamakmak naman ang susuungin mong problema ng bansa. I would work for Php 6,000/mos. when after the end of the day I can pass to Jollibee and reaching home get my feet up and watch television. I suspect it is power that everybody is blinded about. What do you think? With such power kaya mong hawiin ang buong traffic with just a wave of your hands but inform first your PSG commanding chief just to make sure. Pati mga artista has joined the bandwagon. If they are qualified why not. Everybody is entitled to run for any position they like but the question is-mananalo ba sila? Pag natalo laging sinasabi dinaya daw. Typical Filipino mentality. Actually sa atin lang ganito, other countries do not think this way. I wonder why? The norm in the Philippines, kung corrupt ka tumakbo ka sa public office pero kung hindi naman stay out of politics.....what do you say about this?

While they say that a senator’s monthly salary is a pitiful P35,000 per month, that is not entirely true. Each of them has a fixed monthly budget of P2 Million pesos. Maintenance & Operating Expenses (rental, utilities, supplies and domestic travel) has a budget of P500,000 a month AND another P500,000 for staff and... More
