Is it okay to stop by unannounced and drop off a resume?
I'm a new college grad in NYC and I have applied to a billion want ads with no replies. I want to try a more proactive approach and introduce myself in person to institutions in my community. Is it okay to drop by unannounced to leave a resume? I'm afraid that if I call ahead I will be denied the ability to introduce myself in person.

I don't recommend doing that, as you'll have multiple "gate keepers", such as the secretary, to get through. I asked one of my managers if they liked getting calls from job candidates, and even then she didn't like it. Dropping by unannounced will not guarantee that you get to see the right person anyway. You will probably first encounter a receptionist or office manager and that's about as far as you will get without a previously booked appointment with the boss.
