What the hell is wrong with cars?

Why do cars suck? Why is it that when you put a hairline scratch (which could probably be fixed with White-Out) in a car's bumper it can cost you hundreds of dollars to get it fixed? Why are car's bumpers made of rubber?

It doesn't matter what it is made of. It makes no difference if it is plastic, rubber, fiberglass, steel or aluminum. When automotive paint gets scratched, the entire panel must be refinished. Color matched bumpers look good and sell more cars. To match the car color you have to paint the bumper. Paint can be scratched.
