A hitting boyfriend vs a hitting girlfriend: why such different responses to essentially the same question?

Yesterday, I saw a question by a girl whose boyfriend had hit her:;_ylt=Alp2dKcTOUkshIL._43igWLsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20091116102042AAViNc0 Earlier today, I asked an identical question, only I switched around the genders so that it was a boy whose girlfriend had hit him:;_ylt=AmxcU39DcBK8u9UAiIifu6fsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20091117094246AA7YjSo A few observations that I noted: 1.) 9/22 responses (41%) to the female victim mentioned physical abuse or domestic violence, compared to only 2/27 responses (7%) to the male victim. 2.) 5/27 responses (19%) questioned the male victim's manhood or maturity level, while nobody questioned the female victim's womanhood or maturity level. 3.) 9/27 responses (33%) suggested that the male victim deserved to be hit, compared to only 1/22 responses (5%) suggested that the female victim deserved to be hit. 4.) Nobody suggested to the male victim that he seek support services or domestic violence shelters. 5.) Nobody suggested to the female victim that the hit wasn't that serious because it didn't hurt, or that the economy made it tough for anybody to find a job. Any other observations or comments you would like offer that may contribute to this experiment?

In domestic abuse cases, no matter who the abuser really is, it's usually the male who goes to jail. Women can't do that sort of thing.

This is probably the most interesting question I have ever seen on here. You actually understand how sexists people are and exemplified it through your experiment. Most people don't understand that the second they say a man cannot hit a woman is the second they become sexists. Although, I also say that. The difference... More

either way, nobody should be hitting. its more frowned upon in todays society for the guy to hit. but its wrong either way. if a guy who is really weak hits a guy whos really strong, the strong guys gonna hit him back regardless. it doesnt make it any righter for either one.

I'm sure it's because in most cases the males have psychological issues or are controlling or possesive. Also, in most cases a woman can't really hurt a man.
