Short hair guinea pigs don't generally need baths if their cage is kept clean because they groom themselves like cats and do a good job of staying clean if given half a chance. Long hairs tend to have a bit harder time staying clean, even when trimmed or wrapped and regularly brushed. We raise Peruvians (long hairs... More

Actually, guinea pigs will never need a bath. As long as you buy a nice pet brush for them (even short haired pigs need their fur brushed!) they don't need a bath. They clean themselves... More

To bath a guinea pig you can either use a sink or washing tub, fill it with about an inch of lukewarm water (test it with your elbow to make sure its not to hot) Put a flannel at the bottom so your guinea doesnt slip around to much, then gently place your pig in, then with a jug scoop up some of the water and pour it... I am not really a fan of giving guinea pigs a bath as they take such good care of their selfs. If you keep their cage clean there is no need to give one a bath. If one should have a case of diarrhea you can simply use Johnson's baby shampoo or go to a pet store and get shampoos especially for guinea pigs.

Scientificly, the best type of shampoo for guinea pigs, is said to be the Jonhsons brand. AKA: Johnson's & Johnson's. P.S: It actually is good for Guinea Pigs to have a bath:) I don't know weather you wanted any info. on bathing, but a good site is http://jackie' Hope that I helped you:)

Technically Guinea Pigs are not suppose to get baths. Some people do it anyways and don't understand what could happen and the consequences. Guinea pigs can get a Upper Respiratory Infection if wet to long or water gets up there nose. They can suffer death if the slights bit of water gets in there nose or ears... More

I agree with randc290. We have had long and shorthair guinea pigs for 5 years now and while we have never shown them, we do the same things and agree with bathing when needed:)

I bathe my guinea pigs once a month, just to make sure they are clean and that their skin is healthy. I have tried many shampoos and found the head and shoulders is the best and will not irritate their skin! plus it makes their coat really shiny and healthy.
