Are the Colleges and Universities in the USA privately owned?
Many people pursue degrees in higher education in the hopes that they'll find their dream job. Many of these organization advertise that those jobs will be available when they graduate. 90% of the people who get those degrees do not get jobs in their chosen fields. They feel they have gone into debt by investing in their own futures. Seems like the ultra rich haven proven once again how ignorant the masses actually are. The Educational system needs to be upgraded and direct ties to the industries need to be fostered. America, who had the reputation of the land of opportunity, has been let down once again by the former ruling party, the GOP.

Many, many universities in the US are public - paid for in part by tax dollars, so everyone owns them. And many private universities, as mentioned in another answer, are affiliated with religion. Many of the universities are state-run. Many private universities and colleges are either independent or have ties to a religious denomination (Catholic, Baptist, Mormon, etc.). But they aren't really "owned" by anyone except for perhaps the Catholic universities.
