Can credit card company garnish bank account if in collections?
I just started to go late with my cc payments due to loss of job. I myself don't have money but my mom's checking and saving accounts are all opened under my name and she uses them 100%. Can a credit card company go after my bank account? I would want to warn her if so or else she'd be robbed of her own money. I used to make balance transfer payment through that same account when I had money.

By themselves, creditors/debt collectors have absolutely no legal power over you., they cannot garnish your wages or freeze checking accounts...only a court can authorize this and they’d have to go through the court system to do this. This process takes time.....Generally, creditors don't consider taking legal action... More

First, garnish is the wrong word. Second, a credit card company can go after bank accounts only if they have sued in court and won a judgment in court.
