What (if any) branch of the military has jobs for scientisst that "do science" for a career?

I've been doing research and asking a bit on here and I've learned that there aren't many "doing science" jobs in the military.. However, I was wondering if there are any jobs in the military that actually "do science" in a kind of civilian way?

Yes... the advance technology locations, like Sandia National Labs, or Lawrence Berkeley Labs, always need military liaisons, as well as research engineers. Plasma lasers and such for the ABL (air-borne laser, that big laser on a 707, and later a 747) is one such program.

It's not the military, but check out the National Health Service and the National Institutes of Health. Most gov't funded science is done at universities by private scientists.
