How did you get a mortgage modification?
I lost my job and have had trouble making my mortgage payments on a house that has gone down in value (though my taxes keep going up). The bank (PNC) gives me a hassle saying that I make too little money. Excuse me, but I thought that was the point - I don't make enough money, but I could make the payments if they were reduced. I can't seem to get through. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Stop trying to go it alone and talk to some professionals. Talk to lots of loan mod companies and attorneys. Don't stop with just one. Simple. See if they will refinance the mortgage. They basically extend out the life of the mortgage and reduce the monthly payments. If they won't work with you talk to another lender.
