Any artists out there who could tell me something?

I'm starting to think about what to be when I'm older... and one of my top choices is an artist. How many pieces do you usually create per year/month? How many years of school is a reasonable amount? And, um, do you usually find that the salary is a good amount, or does it vary depending on the pieces? If there's anything else that you would like to point out that would be helpful too :P thanks!
