Should I get back with my ex-husband?

I was the one who ended it because he was extremely emotionally abusive towards me, but now he says he's getting help and going to anger management. Why he didn't when I begged him while still in the marriage is beyond me. He was my first love, and even though it's almost been a year since I left him, I still have an unconditional love for him. I just don't want him to ever put me down again.

I think you need to get proof that he went to anger management. I also think that you should read "Why does he do that?" by Lundy Bancroft. Go to a domestic violence center's support group meetings. If you want to try again, you need to be sure this abusive behaviour is finished. He may be getting help, but you will both need some help together also. I wouldn't even consider it until I had been to couples counselling. Find out what you both want and if you can get over what he did to you. I'd also wait until he... More

Only you can say if you believe he's sincerely trying to change for the better. You know, that the odds are not stacked in your favor tho. All I can say is if you do get back, make clear & follow thru that you are leaving at the first sign of BS and don't remarry until you've been with him for at least and year and... More

No where in your question did you say that HE is interested in getting back together . . . that fact that HE never worked on the marriage should tell you how he feels about the relationship.
