Most single women and some married women had to work for a living in the 1960s, as they have always done. Women did all sorts of jobs, but the most common jobs for women were probably teacher, nurse, secretary, typist, bookkeeper, shop assistant (sales clerk), civil servant, librarian, bank clerk, waitress, cook... Women who did work were usually let go after they had a child. There were few choices anyway: typist in a typing pool comes to mind.

in the 60's most women stayed home, and did the house whole chores...back then it was the man's duty to support his wife and family...now days men would rather stay home ,and let the woman take care of him .There are a few men that still believe in taking care of there family, but its hard to find them now days.

Women have worked in many industries, but I seem to recall that a lot were involved in secretarial, retail, or waitressing positions. My own Mom started as a bank teller just out of high school, and went to a retail post part-time when I was in grade school.
