How can I improve my mental health and capabilities?

Years ago when I was younger I suffered from depression and took recreational drugs which badly affected my mental health. It was as though my mind was pressured and over stretched and I could not function normally. Now I have recovered pretty well, but I find that when I am at work I tend to hit a glass ceiling in my capabilities where I want to up my game and improve my skills but sometimes when I try, my mind becomes over stretched and pressured and I get mentally tired and have to stop. It's really frustrating because in my job I have the opportunity to grow and improve but sometimes I can't make use of the opportunities because I am mentally tired after just doing normal routine functions. I also worry when I am given tasks to complete whether I am going to be capable, although so far things have been okay. I made an appointment to see a practice nurse around Christmas but after the chat she seemed to deduce that I was just feeling a bit low and lonely so I don't think I explained the issue very well. How can I improve things from here? Thanks.
