Why is Pepsi Bottling Group asking for your full Social Security Number when apply for a job? Or is it a scam?

Their website application process requires you to give your name and full social security number and date of birth!!!! And it's not for someone who's already been hired. It's for everyone who even wants to browse their job openings! What's going on here?

if you aren't applyin through pepsico.com http://www.pepsico.com/Careers.html or http://www.pbg.com/careers/starting_careers.html its not pepsi, there are scammers operating spoof sites using Pepsis name. If it is the real Pepsi site then they just need to make sure you are legal to work

That's not all that uncommon. They can do a criminal and background check with your ssn.

If it's you're just browsing their job site there should be no reason to have to provide such personal information. If you are actually applying for a position then you are required to provide this type of info.

If you are applying, that is one thing. Yes, in some cases, I have had to give my SSN. However, if you are just job searching, they really don't have that right. I don't need people doing criminal background checks on me while I browse just because they are curious.
