Should the US immediately cut off immigration since there's plenty of Americans who need jobs now?

For centuries, the US immigration policy was lenient in boom times, restrictive in hard times. So now, when immigration is at record levels, should the US close the gates for a while so Americans can be the first to get jobs while the unemployment rate is so high? Otherwise, wouldn't we still be mired in recession if immigrants kept sucking each new job produced by the post-recession time frame?

Only if we're also going to send the illegals home (one way or another, whatever works). It wouldn't be fair to let them stay while denying people that are trying to come the right way.
