What is the difference between RN and LPN?
What's the difference in their roles? People say and LPN can do watever an RN can do. Would you agree? Who will be able to find a job easier? Lots of opinions please:)

The main and biggest difference is an RN can start IVs. I believe LPNs can maintain and d/c IVs. Besides that, it's more of a management difference. RNs are considered the supervisors of LPNs, they make more money, have more schooling. But as far as actual patient care goes, it is almost the same.

LPN can NOT do everything an RN can do - what would be the point of having two different types of nurses if that was the case? - RN's need more schooling, so there must be more to that job and they make more money too google it

LVNs can not do nursing assessment/triage in California -therefore can not "admit" a patient and do the initial nursing assessments. They also can not hang blood, nor administer medications by IV. This is why they are not used extensively in acute care & the ER (in maryland & ca where I practice).
