Is Wikipedia more reliable than a beadless abacus?

I have heard from my teachers and my tax accountant not to trust Wikipedia, but I think they are saying this just to protect their own high-paying jobs. I need to know just how reliable Wikipedia is, here on March 1.

I always hear this from my teachers too, and I never know what to think! I just use Wikipedia to get a general idea of what my topic is about and then move on to other sources. If you do use info from Wikipedia just make sure other, more "reliable" sources back it up... More

Reliable for what? Providing information, yes. Starting a fire, probably not. Hmm, I actually like this question's phrasing. Perhaps this initiative to troll didn't quite fetch as many questioners as you'd hoped, though? ~~~~
