WHY DO PEOPLE think that if you live in a housing association property then it means you sponge off the state?

It's a joke. Why do people think that if you are in a housing association property it means you get free everything? The flat is 2 bedroom and costs 140PW. Which is classified as ' council/housing association price.' People living in housing associations do actually PAY THIS. i work so hard to pay this and get talked to and looked at like im scum. i dont get any benefits either. i work 12 hrs a day sometimes and nothing gets fixed for free from the council.

Some people in housing associations pay this. Some don't. When it gets to a point where people can say " it isn't worth my while working because i'll lose the benefits i receive" then that's where there is an issue... More

They are just ignorant people... Roof repairs, new kitchens, electrical work and so on, it is all coming out of your rent and you don`t have to look around for a labourer like they do. Now, I wouldn`t say that was sponging, I would say that was sensible.

If the state pays all or part of someone's rent, then they ARE sponging off the state. That's not to say decent hard working low income people don't deserve some help, but let's call a spade a spade, shall we?

yes you do pay this £140 per week but if anything goes wrong with the property the council pay for it to be repaired also most people who are in housing association are on a ton of benefits for whatever reason single mum, immigrant, lazy bums who use every trick in the book not to work and they just use there benefits... Beats me - but people can be very judgemental, and jump in without knowing the full story. It can be the same with Housing Benefit/Council Tax Benefit recipients. And unfortunately there are a lot who are sponging, no doubt it. As with everything, it's the few who give the rest a bad name.
