That's the kind of thing that depends upon many factors. I live in Palestine (volunteer for a year from US) and I have been studying the conflict. How much more will Israel expand? Right now, it seems that Israel wants everything. They can not have Jericho (officially, because it is written in scripture that jews cannot live there), but the zionist movement craves everything, including parts of Jordan, Northern Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, southern Turkey...it is ridiculous. proof: on the 10 agorot Israeli coin (
http://www.nogw.com/ilrunshow.html -- scroll down to see a map of the area and a picture of the coin) , you see behind the menorah a misshapen blob. This misshapen blob is actually a map, showing the 'dream borders' of Israel according to what the zionist movement ultimately wants.
Please read more about zionism here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zionism Living here, knowing what I know, seeing what I have seen, reading what I have read, it seems to me that Israel thinks it can abide by a separate set of rules from the rest of us. They have this zionist movement backing them that is seemingly unstoppable because if anyone dares to oppose them publicly, they are automatically labeled as anti-semitists, and guilted unto submission by tales of the Holocaust (which was HORRIBLE, but should NOT be used to guilt people into submission or for political gain!). Every time Israel announces they will be approving 100-something more settlement units, that pushes the chance of peace even farther away, spreading complete hopelessness throughout Palestine (and Israel....at least those who are aware of what their government is doing and disapprove of it).
Israel will keep on building settlements because they claim it is "natural growth." Natural growth at the expense of innocent Palestinian families. In East Jerusalem, Israel is hell-bent on pushing the Palestinian population out. They see that these Palestinians have houses in East Jerusalem and they figured a way to extract them. They created a law saying that all houses in East Jerusalem must have a permit or they will be demolished to make way for new Jewish housing. The catch is that most of the houses in East Jerusalem where Palestinian families have been living for CENTURIES were built long before the creation of the State of Israel! So how on earth would they have been able to get a permit back in time when their houses were built! Israel says they can apply for retroactively valid permits, but they are very rarely issued (at a heavy fee that most families cannot afford). So, these families are issued demolition orders for their own house. They can either pay to demolish their homes themselves, or if they wait too long, Israel will send a bulldozer over themselves to do the job and make the family pay a fee for not taking care of it themselves. Imagine being the father of that household getting that demolition order, and having to hire someone to bulldoze your family's home.
I could write all day about the injustices I have seen, heard, and read. A lot of Israelis attempting to defend the actions of their government immediately point to the rockets being shot from Gaza, and say that Israel must defend itself against these attacks. First off, these shady rockets are made out of whatever materials can be found/smuggled from Egypt thru the tunnels. These rockets are poorly constructed and do not have any kind of navigation device. These primitive acts of retaliation against the crude blockade Israel has imposed on Gaza are in some ways warranted! Israel is CHOKING Gaza, treating it like a zoo (just like how zoos do the bare essentials for the animals to keep them alive...food, water, clean up their poo...Gaza is so similar where they only let the barest of bare essentials past the checkpoint to sustain life and not anything more like shoes, clothes, books, music). If your state was blockaded and suffocated, wouldn't you want to retaliate, or would you sit there twiddling your thumbs, waiting for the whole thing to blow over?
All in all, if the zionist movement deems it worth it, they will take over a large chunk of the middle east, calling it Israel. This means it will continue to build settlements and gain land until it is satisfied. The best way to stop this vicious act would be for the US to cut Israel off, meaning stop giving it $3 Billion in tax $$ a year to fund its illegal occupation. As we all know, money makes the world go round, and if the US stopped writing the checks, I truly believe things here would change immediately for the better!
Hope that answered your question, and then some. :)
