How can you and me as citizens change the economic problem in America?

We are citizens, so how can we change the economy for our future? I don't want to live in stuck up third world country if America take a dive....trust me I would move to south America and enjoy nice weather before I stayed here in America as a third world. So what can we do as just people of America to change this place and make it better for us?
