How much time during the day spent on educating myself?

I just started an entry level web development job. It's a small place and I'm the only one doing any coding. I have a basic php knowledge but I'm obviously trying to grow. How much time do you think it would be okay for me to spend during the work day not working on my tasks but just reading books to learn more? Just wondering what the norm is. Or if I should be doing this at home on my own time. So far I've been reading the Web Application Architecture book at home, and watching the beyond basics tutorials by lynda.com at home as well. If anyone has some recommendations for other sources of reading material as well, please let me know. I plan on reading some books about patterns in the near future. PS. I went to college but not for Comp. Sci.

A mate of mine is a web designer and he's looking for newbies in web design/development to hire. He prefers people who are close to his town but he can be flexible. If you're interested in learning more, let me know and I'll try to help.
