Im Homeless with a pregnant Girlfriend In Illinois...?

I left my family down in Florida because my fiance got kicked out of her mothers house while she was pregnant. Everything was going good till then. Her mother has mental problems and has been in a mental asylum 3 prior times. My family would not take her in because of bad financial problems of their own. So technically she was homeless in Florida. She had family up here in Southern Illinois, so I brought her up here. We now know that her family wants nothing to do with her because of her mother. Its stupid, but thats how it is. Now Im up here with her staying with a friend while I look for work up here. I am grateful for their hospitality, but I wake up each day thinking that it could be the last day that we have a roof over our heads. I am a hard worker and I have planned from day one to support my family. Im in a new state. A new town. And trying to find a decent job. So far I'm barely making enough to feed us and pay the friend to take her back and forth between doctor visits. Im not making enough to get a place of our own or a vehicle. She is trying to get foodstamps for us, but the worker that she was assigned to is being extremely difficult. About 9-10 business days ago, I applied for a job with Ingram Barge Company out of Paducah, Illinois for a job as a deckhand. I figured that seeing as I have no transportation, a boating job where I slept on the boat would be my best bet. 28 days on. 28 days off. Bi-weekly pay. Great pay. They train you and everything. I have a good record with only 2 speeding tickets and a seatbelt ticket. All of which have been payed on time over 3 years ago. Im not lazy, and I am doing everything I can to take responsibility and support my family. I Install carpet and VCT flooring by family trade. My father taught me everything that I know. My other work experience includes: Roofing, Fiberglass Installation, Lawn Care, Handyman, and Light Mechanics. If I don't figure something out or find better work soon, Im going to have to find a homeless shelter for families. I would never want to put my pregnant fiance in a homeless shelter with me, but im running out of options. I do not know anything about homeless shelters or how to get low income housing, So any help would be greatly appreciated. Advice is certainly welcome, and any info on possible jobs would be of great help. Thank you.
