How to apply thermal paste on cpu?

Some people say that only a pea sized blob at the center of cpu does the job. Others say you have to spread it on the surface of cpu evenly by using an edge of a card. I am using Intel pentium d processor LGA 775 socket.

Small Pea size and you don't need to spread it. When you mount the cooler it will spread it for you. Don't get the paste on the mobo could short out the board. Don't use too much couse it could actually hinder the cooling by acting more like an insulator

you need to spread the compound evenly, ensure that there is no air bubbles formed in the process so you don't get any trapped bubbles. Apply on both the surfaces evenly. Excess paste will come out when you fit the processor...wipe all aextra paste.
