Why did the south hate blacks more than the north?

During the american civil war, why did the southerners hate blacks more than the northerners? I know it was also because they used them more than the north for farming, but why did they hate them more than the north? And it is also like that today: you see a lot more racism in the south than you do in the north. Why is that?

The south never really considered them equals and when forced to free them from slavery they imposed segregation on them to keep them separate and unequal. People today just have some leftover passed down attitudes so that is probably why but you have to remember if the North was a great place for Blacks, they wouldnt... More

The northerners were all about liberty and justice for all, regardless of creed or... More
