Living in western Massachusetts?
I live in Northampton Massachusetts. What does everyone out there think of Western Mass? Do you have positive or negative associations with the region. Pros Lots of colleges, Museums, pretty landscape. Delicious local agriculture Ample social programs for the poor (food stamp, heating assistance, etc.) quakers, jews, unitarians, congregationalists are really neat people- New England is small, so there are hundreds of historic sites within driving distance. Cons there's a "pat yourself on the back" culture, with obnoxious stubborn wannabee liberals political corruption up the wazoo. it's really expensive, not a lot of jobs the quality education in the pioneer valley is too expensive and most public schools seem to suck. As a response to your answer, I suppose I am referring to what is technically the springfield Metropolitan Area- That is comprised of Franklin Hampshire and Hamden County. Berkshire county is different. I don't know the statistics for the Pittsfield Metro Area. I do know that Pittsfield has serious economic and educational issues (i have a friend who grew up there). It's also close to Lenox, a backyard for wealthy New Yorkers, so as a parrellal, pittsfield has a social disparity issue quite similar to that of the Five college area. Pittsfield isn't in the Pioneer Valley. Sorry I left it out.
