How is a career in Air Traffic Control?

Just an inquiry into the field of ATC as I'm considering pursuing it as a career. It started off as a hobby with VATSIM, but its actually pretty fun and I'm more than willing to give it serious thought. To those out there who are controllers, whats the experience like? I hear a ton about the high amounts of stress that controllers need to endure, and I also want to know a little about the wages and job security. What is the likelihood that controllers will be replaced by computers in the next 20-30 years? I know that the NextGen system doesn't intend to replace controllers, but the FAA website indicates that certain aspects of ATC may be computerized such as "route decisions"...unless they mean clearance delivery in which its perfectly understandable. Just general information about the field would really help here.
