I got my first photography gig, but how much should I charge?

A family member recently got me my first opportunity to take photos for the company(which helps house disabled elderly people) she works for, but now I'm wondering what to charge. I don't want to be taken advantage of since I'm only 16, but I don't want to make an outrageous first offer and be embarrassed. I am going to be taking pictures of the Highmark Walk For A Healthier Community located in Pittsburgh, PA, and also photos of the nurses that go on house calls to the customers they help house.

I would ask for compensation for your time and your milage. Don't ask them to pay for the event. It sounds like a charity thing and it's frowned up on charging them no matter what your skill is. maybe a session fee for the hole thing of 50 bucks for your time and engergy and food ect.

That is a good question, and you have several answers to choose from. Bottom line, it will be up to you. Personally, I'd go for a flat rate of $50, donate half back and be sure that you get photo credit for all prints used - no matter what... More
