What does store manager designate mean?

I've applied for a retail store manager designate job. I am unsure what the disctinction designate means. There is apparantly a store manager, a store manager designate, an assistant manager, and an assistance manager designate. Any ideas the significance of the "designate"? The job says store manager designate north area. Does this mean you cover managers when they are off or you assist them as required? thanks

A designate is usually the person who is lined up for a job, but there is somebody else in post for the short term. I expect that a store manager is leaving or moving on within the company and just wants to line up a successor. The North Area might just be them trying not to let on which store manager is going.
