Where to live near Richardson, Texas with young children?

My husband accepted an offer for a job in Richardson,Texas and I do not know anything about Texas. We have two children, 5 and 3, and I am looking for a safe area with good schools near Richardson.

I suggest you look in Plano. Plano is a safe city, with excellent schools. It's 6 miles north of Richardson. If you prefer a more country setting Allen is a great, but smaller city. It's 12 miles north of Richardson. Either one would be a good choice. Personally, I wouldn't live in Richardson.

I lived at the garland.Richardson boarder and loved it. Richardson has good schools and so does Plano. Due to traffic reasons stay from Carrolton,Farmers Branch and Addison.
