How old do you have to be to leave home without consent?
I know a friend that is 17 and she wants to leave hme. She lives in North Carolina and she wants to move with a friend in Tennessee that is 26. Her family treats her really bad but she does not want to break up the rest of her siblings she just wants to leave and o to school in Tennessee. She is really afraid that her mom and step dad are going to give her a hard time on this. Anyone?

Becoming emancipated is not based on allegations of abuse. It's based on the ability to completely support oneself financially. That would mean a job that would pay enough to cover rent, utilities, food, insurance, transportation costs, medical care, etc., without any government help or help from other individuals... More

Define getting "treated really bad by her family". I notice the teenagers who ask these type of questions have a flare for drama, and usually they get "treated really bad" by their parents when they are denied permission to do something which usually leads to foolishness.
