How come when I click a link on a search engine, it redirects to a completely different page?

On google and bing, whenever i click a link it either says that it cant be displayed because of connection problems, that it cant be found, or it will take me to like dating websites and whatnot. if i type the link into the search bar though, it works. whats this all about?
