What is the difference between a secretary and a receptionist?

Is there any difference between a secretary and a receptionist? Im looking for a job answering the telephone and doing some work using word processor, spreadsheet, database, and things like that. Ive taken anywhere between 6-7 years of classes in things such as those. I live in Meridian MS. Does anyone know where I can find a job doing these kinds of things here in Meridian Ms? Thank yall so much.

They are used interchangeably most often. But I guess you could say that a receptionist will have mainly duties dealing with external customers, i.e. answering phones, greeting people who enter the office, whereas a secretary would deal more with the people in the office, typing, faxing, and scheduling for them.

Basically a receptionist answers phones, greets people and other little office jobs like faxing. A secretary does more work like trying letters and other office work. Briefly, hope that helped..

secretaries hardly even exist anymore - they are "administrative assistants" - receptionists might do some admin asst work, admin assts just wouldn't be the front line receptionist/phone answerer
