how should i do my hosting job if guests seat themselves?

i just got a job at a restaraunt where the guests seat themselves. if the guest seat themselves, than what would i be doing as a hostess? i know i wouldnt be seating tables?

Clearly you need to be more assertive and insist the guests wait until you decide where they will sit. Of course, you only need to show them to the table where they will be seated. You should check with the management about what ur duties and responsibilities are vis a -vis the guests. It also depends on the cadre in which u r appointed . U amy not be required to give water or menu card etc., if there are other people already meant for such jobs.The management should tell u what to do.
