How does one become a field archaeologist?

I've been doing a lot of research lately, and I know the process of becoming one (education wise) But where does one APPLY to be a field archaeologist? I'm only in grade 11, but I think it would be good to know now. I've talked to my guidance counselor, but she does not know where. My teacher's daughter is also practicing to become one, but she doesn't know where to apply either. help?

Shovelbums.org is one of the best websites for archaeology equipment, field schools and job listings. Most of the available work is in the CRM area rather than large scale academic research digs, but it's still a good way to work in the field. It also really helps to keep contacts with your teachers. Best of luck.

Call your local museums see if they have any volunteer programs in your area. You can get started now volunteering to work on local digs also call up your local college and see if they have any programs going on, MOST places will accept high school age volunteers!
