Need title suggestions for a biographical novel that I'm writing about a Filipino Chinese American?
I'm writing a biographical novel about a Filipino Chinese BS artist who happens to be second generation immigrant to US. At present I'm stuck with the title "5 years in Shanghai". Can anyone suggest a better name? Here's a short description of the novel >>>>>>>> The main character of the novel is a Filipino Chinese BS artist whose parents immigrated to US from Philippines and settled in the China Town of Houston. This novel traces the life of this BS artist. This BS artist and his family are unable to integrate themselves with the American society. Unlike most of the immigrants that work hard and become financial success in the states, the family of BS artist don't achieve much success. Life goes on for the family somehow. BS gets the job of selling insurance. When he reaches the age of marriage, his parents find him a wife from China because he himself cannot find a wife. (He is neither attractive nor has traits that western women value) The story takes a strange twist when this BS artist discovers that both his parents are having cancer. His finances are not good enough to get proper treatment for his parents both of whom succumb to the disease. BS starts blaming America for his shortcomings. He thinks that Americans are responsible for his misery and his economic impoverishment. Just two years after the death of his parents his wife is diagnosed with cancer. Initially he tries to treat her by reading Merck Manual on cancer [ http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec15.html ]. Her condition further deteriorates. As he cannot afford to get proper treatment for her in the states he moves to Shanghai to take advantage of low cost medical treatment in China. His in laws have guanxi with high party officials in China and he gets the job of Chinese 50 center. One of his wife's cousins is with GE Medical Imaging Hong Kong which helps him in getting subsidized treatment for his wife. Most of the information in my novel is true, but as always is the case, gaps have been filled up with educated guess. Several members on this forum are helping me in my research. Others would help me in translation. I am thinking of hiring the Ukrainian Escort girl on this forum for translating this novel in Ukrainian as well. I hope you would enjoy this novel. The central character of the novel "BS" develops schizophrenia and loses track of time and reality. Going by his account it should be his 6th year in Shanghai but he still thinks that it's only "5 years in Shanghai" and hence the name of my novel. >>>>>>> Can you people suggest a better title?

LOL! I thought your lead character is an Aussie at the same time. About the Ukrainian girl, she used to be on the Language section all the time but only answered about the Chinese language, never on Ukrainian even though such questions come up once in a while. There are still a lot of mysteries for a biography.

This book sounds very interesting. I may have met this person one time, he was laying in the gutter of the road passed out. I watched as some people drag him out of the gutter up on the side walk. I ask them if they were friends of his and they laughed saying no, he has no friends. They said he owed them and many more... More

haha. i think "5 Years in Shanghai" sounds ok. . . I never really read a book where i'm so against the main character. but it would be interesting to really go deep in the life of BS and why exactly he spews all this hatred towards the US.
