How hard would it be to learn to sew clothes to start a business?

I am an unemployed graduate. Simply cant get a job. I was thinking of sewing vintage style clothes or something and sell them. I am basically completely unskilled at sewing. Is this something I could realistically learn to do?

very very hard. it is hard to start any business, but even if you buy your material wholesale, you are cheating yourself of your time/expertise. you need lots of $ and time to make any business work... More

Learning how to sew is going to take a lot of time. You need to learn how to use a sewing machine to the point of feeling completely at ease with it. You need to learn how to lay out a pattern correctly and read the instructions. And once you learn just the basics of sewing, you are going to have to take lessons on how... More

Yes, you can. But you're probably at least a year's hard work away from it. I'd suggest you might want to start reading at for starters if you want to make clothes for sale, or join the group "sewbiz" at if you want to do what amounts to custom work... More
