iPod touch or Smartphone? (*long description*)?

First off, my dad wants to get something that he can check his email on the go on and "update his website". I am not sure if he would be able to do the second one on either of those. We don't have a cell phone carrier right now so getting a smart phone would be a bit of a hassle I think. He isn't really up to date with the modern technology. He knows more about computer programs and stuff from about 5-10 years ago. He hasn't really upgraded much of his stuff. So I think maybe a smart phone would be too much to handle? I don't know.. The ipod touch he can probably figure out because if he just wants to check mail he could but he would be restricted to wifi areas.. so... if he wanted to check it ANYwhere he would have to get a smartphone... I want him to get smartphone so then I can get a phone because I don't have one and my mom has a really old tracfone that has seen better days lol. I don't know how to convince him that he should get a smart phone. I know it has way more features than an ipod but... yeah. He would be paying more in the long run for a phone.. ALRIGHT so. What do you think? Should I try to persuade him to get a smart phone? I've got a couple reasons for that... Or do you think he should just get an iPod touch Right now.. for getting a smart phone ive got.. - check email anytime anywhere - me and mom both could use a new phone. keep in touch sorta thing - it could be his business phone/number rather than the landline thats it..

Definitely a Smartphone. Nothing from Apple. No iPod, no iPhone. Not AT&T. An iPod touch will bring disappointment for his needs so forget that idea. Not only because it has to have a WiFi connection, but for many other reasons. I cringe at the idea of an iPod for your dad... More

I think you should go with the smartphone...even though it might be a bit too advanced for him...it might work out better because with the iPod, you have to have a place for Wi-Fi and with a smartphone, you can get it ANYWHERE and also the other points you pointed out were great. Both you and your mom could use a new... More
