What exactly is Structural engineering and how does it differ from Civil engineering?

On certain websites I've found that Civil engineers are the basic engineers when it comes to building and construction project, be it buildings, bridges, highways, etc. and Structural engineers are more specialized towards structure design in specific projects such as buildings or bridges. What I need to know is what are the specific differences in jobs, responsibilities, salary, and and level of workmanship [that is to say how high up each on is ranked in the construction field. Thank you very much to those of you who take the time to answer this and a special thanks to those who answer it thoroughly and completely.
