What is the closest city ( I mean very close) in new jersey to new york city?

I am planning on moving from Florida to Jersey ( was offered a job in new york in manhatten) but i cant live in new york because of the cost of renting so I wanted to live in jersey but still need to be close to my job. Please help. thanks much. Thank to all, your answers were great. Thanks

Weehawken, NJ is across the Hudson River and is 5 minutes away via ferry. Once on the New York side of the Hudson, use a free shuttle bus service.

Jersey City is right across the Hudson from Manhattan and is connected by subway. Hoboken is right across from Manhattan, too, and you can get there by ferry. (I don't live in NY or NJ, but I've visited there a few times have crossed from NJ to NYC by both subway and ferry in these locations.)
