IPhone 4:
Reception problems
Bad AT&T network
Class Action lawsuits because of antenna problems.
Thumbs down by Consumer Reports, even after the free bumper
Taken off top 10 list by PCWorld after Steve Jobs’ conference
By the way, the top SEVEN cell phones in the PCWorld list are ANDROIDS. Topping the list: HTC EVO.
http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/collection/1671/top_10_cell_phones.html With Google standing firmly behind the Android OS, there is no limit to what will happen. Where but with Google’s Android can you get a free build-your-own-app app?:
http://www.thedailytechnews.com/google-offers-free-app-inventor-for-android-0574.htmlhttp://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/07/12/googles-app-inventor-will-lead-to-an-app-explosion/ The EVO can do anything the iPhone 4 does and do it better, plus it can do many things the iPhone can’t do. In addition, Sprint is a far better carrier and the data plans are still unlimited.
To quote GIZMODO:
“You know that scene in Iron Man 2, where Justin Hammer asks Rhodey which weapons he wants inside War Machine—and Rhodey says "all of them"? That's exactly how the Evo 4G was born. Somebody said ‘everything.’”
“The Evo's dossier reads like a phone nerd's sticky back-of-napkin fantasy, which is precisely the point. The Evo is an icon, manufacturer HTC gleefully tugging at customers' hems: Look what we can do!”
“The Evo a beautiful slab. Being the biggest, fastest and strongest—and boastfully so—is a rare trait, marginalized by the Apple-born-but-increasingly-popular mantra that guts don't matter, or at least that you shouldn't talk about them; that the experience should come out of a magical black box. The Evo is HTC's response to that. It's pure guts.”
End quote.
Check out the specs of the EVO and you tell me how someone can truly say it’s not superior to the iPhone:
It makes EXCELLENT phone calls. No iPhone ‘Death Grip’ here.
Lower monthly cost. Truly UNLIMITED data plan.
4.3’ screen
4G capable
HDMI port
8 MP Camera
Front-facing 1.3 MP camera
Takes High-Definition videos
Dual LED flashes
Limitless Video-Chatting over WiFi or over the CELLULAR NETWORK. You can video-chat with PCs even. Facetime is only iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 and only over WiFi and how convenient would that be?
Tethering
REAL multitasking
High quality FREE built-in GPS navigation
Plays Flash content
LIVE wallpapers
Accepts voice input system-wide. This is so good you hardly need to type anything anymore.
Swappable battery
Removable microSD card
Kickstand (That inspires RESPECT!)
Support for ALL Google Mobile Services (YouTube, Gmail, Gvoice, Gtalk, etc.),
The ability to use it as an external drive, you can put videos, music and anything you want
No need to use proprietary cables
Digital compass, accelerometer, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, GPS
On an Android you can install any application you want, not what Steve Jobs wants. NO iTunes hassle. Just drag your movies or music into the microSD card and you’re done.
I have my favorite music, several movies and documentaries in my EVO. I put it on the table, pull out the kickstand, and watch my stuff on the beautiful screen.
With the upcoming Android 2.2 OS you’ll have, among many other things:
Cloud-to-device messaging
Over-the-air music syncing and streaming
Flash 10.1
The ability to use the phone as a mobile hot-spot for up to 8 devices
Ability to Install Android Apps to SD Card
The World's Fastest Mobile Browser
It will also extend battery life
The new JIT compiler will boost performance to all Android phones that are updated to Android 2.2. Estimates run from 2x-5x, more likely 4x-5x.
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.2-highlights.html By the way, I’m happily tethering my laptop to my EVO for FREE via USB using Easytether, a free app from the Android Market.
Google’s Android is the future. It’s developing at a very fast pace and bringing an avalanche of new technologies. Android is open-source and royalty-free, and when you compare it with Apple’s close-mindedness you feel liberated. I love the Google mindset.
I am very highly technical and so is my son. We both have EVOs after looking into many other devices. We have many friends with iPhone 4s and when you compare the two devices in an honest way, the EVO comes out ahead so clearly there is just no contest.
The iPhone’s reign is over. The avalanche of high-powered Androids has begun.
