What rifle would i need to get to shoot a mile?

hey everyone. i have a few questions. i was planning on buying a remington 700 police model, but i decided that i am mostly going to be doing target practice. and since the remington doesn't have enough punch to go really far distances(like a mile). so what i am wondering is what caliber could go that far and what rifle would be the perfect job for it?

.338 Lapua or .50BMG The current record for a kill is over 1.5 miles using a .338. Barrett makes some beauties, links below where you can purchase them, happy shooting.

A .22 LR will travel over a mile. Since you don't seem to know too much about rifles or models I'll just inform you that's about the weakest common cartridge in the world. Sure, it'll go a mile. But most people have issues past 150 yards. Other than that, I refuse to give you any advice.

Aside from the condescending answers the 338 Lapua has been mentioned a few times. Savage just came out with a rifle in that caliber. At $2000 it is a bargain compared to most of the others.

Pretty much any caliber will reach a mile, just aim upwards at about 45 degrees and pull the trigger. When does school get back in?

Something about this question tells me you arn't very experienced with guns.....of course a 700 will shoot a mile! You just have to be able to shoot that far and you have to elevate the barrel to different degrees.....I know it can be done because my graps used to kill groundhogs with a .222 at a you can... More
